Beaded curtains are making a comeback, right from the 60s. Actually, they originated from Asia, but the flower children made them popular some 50 years ago. They are a perfect choice for a tired room because they can change the entire setting and atmosphere with their appearance and the cute noise they make. If you want something new and fresh to decorate your home with, a bead curtain would be a great choice.
There are many different types of these curtains since there are plenty of materials to choose from. Whatever can be hung up on a string is a potential for a door or window curtain. Lets say you want to decorate your window. You can use several strings with beads, or make as many of them as you can hung up on the curtain rod. First option divides you from the outside world, but you will be able to see clearly outside as well as allow sunlight in your room. If you put more strings and make a really heavy beaded curtain, you get more closed look and divide the window and the outside world completely.
Also, there is no need to close the entire window or doors with the beads. You can set them up to hung halfway, so they will only give you privacy, while there will be plenty of light left in the room. Considering door beaded curtains, it will be more practical to have short strings so you can move easily through the door.
Bear in mind that there are plenty of materials you can use. Plastic, stone, metal and even glass. They all have their advantages and special features. For example, glass will let you know if there is any wind coming in through the window or if anyone is entering your room through the door, touching door beaded curtain. This can be done with metal, too, especially if you make hollow beads - the sound will be simply amazing. Just like in those Asian movies, when a student comes into a masters house, and every time he is noticed.
You can change the noise alert if you don’t like it by using plastic beads. They will not create loud noises and will leave you at piece.
When it comes to color of beaded curtains, you must think of the appearance and the practical side of this. If the bead color is dark, then it will be less light in your room and it’s much harder to look through darker curtain. Considering appearance, you can use mosaic as a main theme. They are filled with details and have all sorts of interesting pictures and landscapes. Definitely check them out, there are some great examples you can find and simply stare at them.
Lets not forget that you can use the beads and attach them to your regular curtains. Just sew them into them and create some sort of patterns so your curtain comes into life. This will completely change them and with a little effort you will bring in new atmosphere for your home.
Using beaded curtains can also be put aside for a while if you use beads only on the edges of your existing sheer curtains and make them look more stylish.
Making Beaded Curtains
You can make them by yourself, from the start. But if you are not handy enough, you can buy them and add beads on the strings quite easily. Use sewing, if you know how, since glue will not be so durable. If you do not want to have anything with this, you can buy already made beaded curtains for your home.
One more thing that makes bead curtains so popular is the ease of maintenance. When they get dirty, just wash them in a water with little soap. This is far easier then using washing machine and dryer for regular curtains.
