Lace was introduced to the world some 7 centuries ago, but lace curtains were created 200 years ago when mechanical loom was invented. Hand woven lace wasn’t good enough for the curtains, but when Jacquard gave us the loom, it was possible to create lace curtains and decorate the windows.

With mechanical loom, it was possible to create intricate patterns and designs with cotton, while previously only silk and linen were used for a hand woven laces. It was possible to design window laces and from there lace curtains spread throughout the world of interior decoration. They usually contain 95% of cotton and 5% of synthetics to provide strength, but you can also find 100% cotton lace curtains.

The biggest advantage of these curtains is their unique appearance. They are giving a beauty and atmosphere to the windows and rooms no other window treatment can give. The charm and vibe they hold is something special and it definitely improves the looks of entire room.

First thing you can notice is that they have the unique style of design. We usually have our curtains differentiate in colors and shapes, but not in the weaving structure itself. Besides this beautiful design of lace curtains, there is the protection they provide from the looks from outside. It is not possible to notice what is happening inside the windows, yet there is so much sunlight entering the room – like there are no curtains at all.

These window treatments offer a great deal of privacy for the people inside. And they do not need to shut themselves off with blinds, shades or curtains. With lace curtains, it’s possible to be unnoticed while you can freely see what is happening outside. Besides that, sunlight can enter your room and it is not so strong when it comes through the lace – it becomes softer and much more friendly. If, for some reason, you want your window treatments to block the sunlight more, you just need the denser weave.

When it comes to setting of a specific lace curtain, you will have to use tension rods inside the window frames. But if you like your curtains on the frame, standard rods will do the trick and fit inside the rod pocket. The construction is quite simple and it is not much different from other types of curtains.

You also have a lot of options on how to dress your windows with lace. For example, you can use single panel for narrow windows and use two panels for wide windows in your home. You are also free to decide would you like to have pulled back panels to the floor length or just hang then straight down. It is really a matter of taste, and you can also sew your own curtains. Making you curtains is difficult for some, but others can do it quite easily. With hard work and dedication, you can learn to sew and make your own lace curtains.

You can also improve the looks of your windows with a lace valences, they provide that lacy look and give additional attributes to your windows. In case you want more formal design and looks, use drapery material. Also you can use them as door curtains and make something extraordinary in your home.

When it comes to choosing the color of our lace curtains, there are two options here. You can go for a white or ivory. Make sure you match it with the color of your window frames and other woodwork in your room. You will make miracles with little effort in matching colors and designs. You will be able to find everything from Victorian Curtains to European Lace Curtains. There are lots of choices for you, and you can choose designs in tiers, valances and full length panels.

You probably know this, but lace curtains are very durable. And with proper care, they can last for many years and offer you a great joy in your home. You only need to machine wash them, with delicate cycle only and with cool water with non-detergent soaps. Do not use dryer, just hang them to dry when you finish washing them.

These curtains can really provide a great comfort and atmosphere to your home. If you are willing to try them, browse for different designs, try to find them on discount and choose the most irresistible lace curtains you find.

There is one thing I notice every time I see this type of drapery – it always looks classy. I think that victorian or similar types of these window treatments can’t be placed on a window and in a room that is not well decorated. They would be out of place, in a way.

You just have to decorate your room in such a manner that it goes well with battenburg lace curtains. And the best thing you can do is to go with wooden windows and hardwood flooring. I think that’s the best surrounding for lace.

You don’t get much when it comes to sunlight blocking, you don’t get insulation and noise dampening, but you do get privacy. I have them on the upper floor of my house and they look great. I’m thinking of decorating all my windows with lace, but I kinda need some dark when I wanna take a nap and to block the car noises from the outside. Will definitely have to think about it. I might even use blinds to block the noise and sunlight and leave french lace curtains hanging.
