You probably wanted to make cafe curtains by yourself, but never had the proper instructions to do it. But today you came to the right place. We will provide you with detailed instruction of how to make a cafe curtain, so you can make one for yourself. If you’ve already familiar with sewing, or any other work that requires steady hands and punctuation, this will be easy for you.

There are couple of things you will need for this operation, so make sure you have your fabric, rod, curtain wire or pole, and a matching thread.

Measuring Instructions For Cafe Curtains

Make sure you measure your window right. You don’t want to go over again and lose time and materials because of a little mistake. You will need to measure window height, depending on how much window should by covered by cafe curtains. Take care to include a window casing in your measurement, in case you have one.

Do the same thing with window width. Considering fullness, make it twice if your fabric is a home decorator type. If you will use regular fabric for your cafe curtain, make your fullness three times.

Don’t forget to add 4 inches for the heading and 6 inches for bottom – it’s the total length in fabric you will need to create a good cafe curtain. Considering width, add 4 inches more for side hems. That makes the total length in the fabric you need, after you finished all measurements.

Cutting Instructions For Cafe Curtains

This one is quite easy. First, cut the fabric exactly as your length measurements and add 6 inches for the hems. Then, you need to cut 4 inches wide strip the width of your panel. And last, cut a 3 inch wide strip the width of the fabric for loops to hang the panel.

Sewing Instructions For Cafe Curtains

We will try to explain this step by step, so you don’t get confused. First, take the 3 inch wide strip and then press one long edge under the quarter of an inch. The edge you pressed needs to be folded over opposite edge and stitch it down through entire length. Press it again, while centering seam in the middle of the strip. Then you can cut that strip into 6 inch pieces.

Second step, press under 1 inch on either side of the panel. Then turn it and pres it again for another 1 inch. Press that and stich it down. Now you got yourself side hems for your cafe curtain.

You will do the same thing to the 4 inch strip and thus you will create cafe heading.

Now we come to the loops. Fold those 6 inch loops in half width wise, keeping the seam line on underside. You need to place one at each end of panel top. Now it’s up to you to decide how far apart you want the loops to be. Then simply place the raw edges of loops even with the edges of panel and pin each loop in its place. Of course, take care that they are all evenly spaced.

After that, you are ready to connect right sides together and pin heading on top of the panel and loops. Sew it across the heading and loops – use a half inch seam allowance, not more and not less. When that’s finished, flip the heading to wrong side of panel and stitch down sides and bottom edge of your cafe curtain.

The last step is to turn up the bottom hem 3 inches and press it. Make sure that the hem is straight. Again, turn the width of the first turn and stitch it down.

Your first cafe curtain is done. Now you can go ahead and make more cafe curtains for other windows in your home.
