Sheer Curtains Are Not For Everyone

They are not the newest craze in curtains world, but sheer curtains are still so popular like they are the hottest trend. They are so practical and classy that it’s impossible to overlook them. Whether you see them in a restaurant, a cafe or a home, they always blend perfectly into the design of the room and add to the atmosphere. It’s no wonder that sheer curtains are getting so much attention for the last few decades.
Besides highlighting the windows, they aid in blocking the sunlight if necessary. If you do not wish to put a blackout curtain on your window, then a sheer curtain could be a better choice for you. You will not lose all the light since you can fix and adapt this curtain the way you want it. Blackout curtains will cover your window completely and you won’t even be able to look outside. With sheer curtains, you can still see outside and block the sunlight in the same time.

Another great thing is that they are made out of light materials. You can combine them with some other heavy, thick fabric. If you like more light in your room, stick with a single sheer curtains. On the other side, if you need less light, you can made sheer drapes three times wider then your windows are. This will allow you to adjust them the way you want over the window.
If you ever paid close attention how the windows look in the old movies, you can get some great ideas for sheer drapes there. Just rent a movie that has it’s plot set 100 years ago, in some castle or a villa with a ball. You will notice how there are windows that can be opened on the top portion only and still have curtains on them. This helps in brightening the room while you still have the privacy. Just remember how cafe curtains look like, well, this is very similar.
Oh, one other thing considering sunlight and sheer curtains. You will help your plants in front of the window, since they will get the sunlight, but will be safe from the direct rays. It’s not much, but it is worth of noting.
When it comes to washing these types of curtains, there are different approaches. First, it depends of what kind of materials are they made. Mostly, they are from synthetic material and those are quite easy to clean. But other materials, like organdy, are more sensitive and you better dry clean them, just to be safe. Be careful not to wrinkle them when you take them off the curtain rods. Make sure to use non precipitating water conditioner when you fill the washing machine with lukewarm water. And do not overload the machine. Actually, you should fill it only to half because you don’t want to wrinkle sheer curtains.
Do not leave the curtains washing by themselves. Make a 2 minute rounds on easy setting with lukewarm watter. And in the last rinse, use fabric softener to avoid wrinkles being created on your sheer curtain. After that, put them in a dryer with several small towels and you will have a great result. Maintaining the looks of your sheer curtains requires a bit of work, but it is definitely worth it when you see them on your windows.
